The goal of our online workshop was to introduce participants to the benefits, architecture, operations, and migration of SAP systems into a private cloud environment.
During the workshop, we focused on the following topics:
- Introduction to the Private Cloud Concept in the Context of SAP
- What is a Private Cloud and how does it differ from on-premise and public cloud solutions
- The role of hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, GCP) and SAP HEC / RISE with SAP
- SAP trends and strategies for cloud operations
- SAP Architecture in a Private Cloud Environment
- Typical architectural scenarios (S/4HANA, BW/4HANA, SAP PO, Fiori)
- Choosing the right infrastructure (IaaS vs. HEC vs. RISE)
- High availability, disaster recovery, and scalability
- Overview of security standards and compliance
- Migrating SAP Systems to a Private Cloud
- Readiness assessment (Readiness Check, PAM)
- Common challenges and how to overcome them (e.g., network connectivity, backup, certification)
- Migration tools and methodologies (SAP DMO, SAP LaMa, Backup/Restore)
- Demonstration of a typical migration project
- Operating Models and SLAs in a Private Cloud
- Responsibility matrix – customer vs. service provider
- Operations automation (monitoring, backups, patching)
- SLAs, operational support, escalation procedures
